KHMERICANA ○ [kə-ˈmai-ah-keang-naah]

What is frustrating for people who cannot trust the telling of their past, is the insurmountable task of knowing where to start. Cambodians may attest to the legacy of colonialism and ethnocide which has afflicted the diaspora with historical amnesia. Khmericana as a collection is fundamentally “repaired” objects. Repair is understood as re-appropriation, strategically absorbing the symbols of the American & French imperialist into the temporalities of the Khmer cosmology. This re-appropriation of Americana is a translation of value challenging White Supremacist narratives by any and all means necessary. Neither obssessed with nor ignorant of the genocide, but rather busy mending the fatally entangled myths of Angkor to Angkar.
